The IEB welcomes two new doctoral students with a marked international profile

The Barcelona Institute of Economics (IEB) has two new PhD students enrolled on the PhD course in Economics at the University of Barcelona (UB). The new additions, Julia McGee from Canada and Mengwei Lin from China, maintain the international profile characteristic of all the students pursuing their doctorates at the IEB.

Julia McGee studied economics at Dalhousie University in Canada and completed a master’s degree in economics in the Barcelona School of Economics at the Pompeu Fabra University. She has also completed a master’s degree in cities and technology at the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia. Her topics of interest revolve around the urban economy and, in particular, the study of changes in the amenities of city centres and their implications for the well-being of their residents. Her thesis supervisors are Elisabet Viladecans and Rosa Sanchís, professors of economics at the UB and researchers at the IEB.

Mengwei Lin studied a master’s degree in economics the University of Edinburgh. He previously had a degree in economics from Shenzhen University in China. For the past few months he has been doing research assistant work at the China Development Institute. His topics of interest focus on the economics of education and public economics. His thesis supervisors are Andreu Arenas and Jenifer Ruiz-Valenzuela, professors of economics at the UB and researchers at the IEB.
