Núria Rodríguez-Planas, a new researcher at the IEB

The economist Núria Rodríguez-Planas has joined the Barcelona Institute of Economics (IEB) as a researcher. Doctor in Economics from the University of Boston, Professor Rodríguez-Planas is a professor at the City University of New York (CUNY); she has worked at the United States Federal Reserve and at Mathematica Policy Research in Washington. She is now joining the IEB and the University of Barcelona after obtaining an advanced grant from the European Research Council to study the factors of domestic violence in the European Union.

Professor Rodríguez-Planas will lead a new research programme at the IEB focused on gender issues. The new programme, called ‘Gender, Institutions and Culture’, aims to generate research based on empirical data in order to improve our understanding of gender differences in various areas, identifying both the causes and the consequences of these disparities.

The new programme is funded by an advanced grant from the European Research Council entitled WomEmpower: The Causal Effect of Motherhood, Gender Norms, and Cash Transfers to Women on Intimate Partner Violence (2024-2029).
