François Cohen receives a grant from the Mapfre Foundation

The IEB researcher and UB professor François Cohen is one of the five researchers awarded grants by the Mapfre Foundation. The grant, worth €74,800, is given to projects that contribute to promoting knowledge about the world of insurance and that encourage interest in social security, in areas such as the economy of ageing.

Among the selected projects, the one presented by Professor Cohen will evaluate the role of Seguro Popular in Mexico (the former national universal health care programme) in order to understand its impact on universal health care and social cohesion.

The scholarship is awarded by the Ignacio H. de Larramendi Research Grants, launched by the Mapfre Foundation in 1990. Since then, the Foundation has granted more than 9,000,000 euros in support of researchers or research teams around the world in the field of health, insurance and social security.

Nearly 300 organizations from 21 countries applied for this year’s call, of which 33 come from the world of insurance.
