Núria Bosch, Marta Espasa and Albert Solé, winners of the 2010 Joan Sardà Dexeus prize

Members of the IEB and the UB’s Department of Political Economy and the Public Finance awarded the prize of the ‘Revista Econòmica de Catalunya’ for their book ‘The Political Economy of Inter-Regional Fiscal Flows’

Núria Bosch, Albert Solé, researchers at the Barcelona Economics Institute (IEB) and professors at the University of Barcelona (UB) and Marta Espasa, researcher at the IEB and lecturer at the UB, have been awarded the Joan Sardà Dexeus prize for their book “The Political Economy of Inter-Regional Public Fiscal Flows”, based on work presented at the 5th Symposium on Fiscal Federalism organised by the IEB, held in June 2008 with more than 20 national and international prestigious researchers.

“The Political Economy of Inter-Regional Fiscal Flows” provides an overview of the main methods currently in use to measure fiscal flows, highlighting the advantages of the different approaches and interpreting their results. The book reviews the political economy literature that analyses the determinants of inter-regional fiscal flows. Particular attention is paid to the relationship between fiscal flows and national stability, an issue explored both in methodological contributions and national studies.

This annual prize awarded by the Revista Econòmica de Catalunya published by the Col·legi d’Economistes de Catalunya was presented at the 2010 Economists’ Dinner  on Thursday 11 November at the Hotel Majestic in Barcelona.

The Joan Sardà Dexeus prize has been awarded since 1996 to the year’s best book in the areas of Economics and Business. The award pays tribute to the work of Joan Sardà Dexeus in the field of Economics.
