The Barcelona Institute of Economics (IEB) recently held its Fiscal Forum 3.1. attended by a large group of prominent experts from academia, government institutions and private companies, including Ruud De Mooij, Deputy Director of Fiscal Affairs at the International Monetary Fund.<\/p>\n
De Mooij gave a lecture titled Firm Competitiveness and Taxation<\/em> in which he addressed the keys to the future policy on the global minimum corporate tax rate. He highlighted that the introduction of the global minimum rate (Pillar I) will lead to \u201cfocusing less on the fiscal competitiveness of rates and more on eliminating distortions in the tax system<\/em>,\u201d as well as \u201con other factors not related to taxes that shape competitiveness<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n Prior to De Mooij’s intervention, other lectures were given by Alain Cuenca, Director of the Institute of Fiscal Studies; Javier Garc\u00eda Arenas, from CaixaBank Research; Javier P\u00e9rez, from the Bank of Spain; Jos\u00e9 F\u00e9lix Sanz, from the Complutense University of Madrid; Valent\u00ed Pich, from the General Council of Economists of Spain; Carlos Onand\u00eda of Cuatrecasas; Susana Ruiz, from Oxfam-Interm\u00f3n; and Jaume Men\u00e9ndez, from the Economists\u2019 Association of Catalonia.<\/p>\n The event was coordinated by the professor of economics at the University of Barcelona, Alejandro Esteller. He was accompanied at the opening by the president of the IEB, Mart\u00ed Parellada, and the institute\u2019s director, Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda Dur\u00e1n.
