Two IEB researchers receive ICREA grants

The ICREA Academia programme for 2022 has awarded grants to two researchers from the Barcelona Institute of Economics (IEB), Elisabet Viladecans and Judit Vall. This year, 40 of the 231 applications received from experts in various fields of knowledge in the Catalan university system have been assigned 40,000 euros per year for a period of five years.

The aim of these grants, awarded this year for the fourteenth time by the Catalan Institution for Research and Advanced Studies (ICREA), is to retain research talent in Catalonia. They acknowledge the research achievements of the academics who carry out their activities at one of the eight Catalan public universities.

Since the programme’s creation, more than 300 researchers from the Catalan university system have received ICREA grants, which are intended exclusively for university professors who are teaching and whose research careers are expanding rapidly.

Elisabet Viladecans is a professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Barcelona (UB). She co-directs the IEB’s research programme in Cities and also the UB Chair of Urban Economy entitled “City of Barcelona”. She has extensive research experience in regional economics, economic geography and public economics.

Judit Vall is an associate professor in the Department of Economics at the UB. She co-directs the IEB’s research programme in Public Policies and has extensive research experience in the fields of health economics, labor economics, and public policy evaluation.
