Kinga Tchorzewska, PhD student of the Barcelona School of Economics (IEB), participated in the the second edition of the IND+I Science Awards Symposium held on 6 February. As the winner in the category ‘green industry for sustainable growth’, Tchorzewska gave a lecture that focused on her research: the effectiveness of environmental taxes in stimulating the adoption of energy efficiency technologies and reducing pollution by manufacturing companies.

The symposium was opened by Carles Ruiz, mayor of Viladecans and secretary of Pacto Industrial. The vice-rector of entrepreneurship, innovation and transfer of the Universitat de Barcelona (UB) was also part of the opening ceremony.

The IND+I Science awards are promoted by Pacto Industrial together with IND+I, the Universitat Politácnica de Catalunya (UPC), the UB, the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona (AMB) and the Pla Estratègic Metropolità de Barcelona (PEMB). The objective of IND+I Science is to recognize, disseminate, and find ways to be able to implement and apply the research that is done in Catalan universities or by Catalan students in foreign universities, and aims to act as an umbrella for these endeavors, and, especially, for the transfer of knowledge to public policies.

The Pacto Industrial of the Metropolitan Region of Barcelona is an association established in the year 1997 with the aim of shaping a strategic alliance between public administrations, business organizations and trade unions to boost the competitiveness of industry, promote the creation of employment, and improve social cohesion and sustainability in the metropolitan area.
