Marta Espasa has rejoined the Barcelona Institute of Economics (IEB) after serving as Secretary of the Treasury of the Generalitat, the Catalan government, since 2018. In October she returned to her post as researcher at the IEB.

Dr Espasa has been a member of several groups of experts for the preparation of the fiscal balance in Catalonia; she was also the Generalitat’s general director of taxes and gaming. She is an expert in public economics, regional and local financing and territorial redistribution.

Espasa has recently been selected by the Catalan government to form part of the group of experts that will design the new financing model for Catalonia.
