Judit Vall Castelló, Professor of Economics at the University of Barcelona (UB) and President of the Catalan Society of Economics, is the new director of the Barcelona Institute of Economics (IEB). The appointment was made during the recent annual meeting of the IEB’s board of trustees. Professor Vall succeeds Professor José María Durán-Cabré, who held the position for the past nine years and who joined the board of trustees last February.
Judit Vall’s research focuses on health economics, labour economics, and public policy evaluation. Throughout her career, she has led numerous research projects at national and European levels, which have been published in top-tier and general-interest economics journals. She has also collaborated with leading international institutions such as the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) and has received several prestigious awards and grants, including the ICREA Academia Award, the Marie Curie Fellowship, and the Fulbright-Schuman Fellowship.
During the recent meeting of the IEB’s board of trustees, it was also decided to appoint Professor Jordi Jofre-Monseny of the University of Barcelona as deputy director. A researcher at the IEB, Jofre-Monseny is an expert in urban economics and housing policy and has led several research projects in these areas.
