A study by Hipólito Simón (IEI and IEB), Raúl Ramos (AQR-IREA) and Esteve Sanromà (IEB) concludes this is particularly so in the case of women.
The study concludes that immigrants take a step down the professional ladder in Spain with respect to their countries of origin and are unable to recover the professional status they had in their home countries. This is particularly so in the case of women, the highly skilled, and immigrants from developing countries. The study examines the occupational mobility of immigrants between their home countries and Spain, based on the National Immigrants Survey and the International Index of Professional Categories.
