IEB awarded two grants in the Sixth National R&D&I Plan of the Ministry of Education and Science

The Barcelona Institute of Economics (IEB) has been awarded two grants under the National Program for Fundamental Research Projects, which is part of the Sixth National Plan for Scientific Research, Technological Development and Innovation 2008-2011 organized by the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science. The grants were targeted at public non-profit R&D&I centres and non-profit technological centres and organizations with a commitment to science, technology, research and innovation.

One of the projects selected was ‘Accountability and quality of governance in Spanish municipalities: adaptation to voter preferences, efficiency in public service delivery, corruption, and cronyism’, led by IEB researcher Albert Solé-Ollé. This project’s code is ECO2009-12680/ECON. The other successful application was ‘Tax allocation and fiscal decentralization’, led by IEB researcher Alejandro Esteller-Moré. This project’s code is ECO2009-12928/ECON.

Both projects were awarded under the non-oriented fundamental research subprogram. This program promotes quality research by investigators with a commitment to internationalization and a strong publication record in forums of high scientific and technological impact, and whose work is likely to make a significant contribution to solving the problems facing Spanish society today.
