The Barcelona Institute of Economics (IEB) has just published the first in a series of monographs ( http://ieb.ub.edu/en/publication/info-ieb-numero-33-abril-2020/ ) that will focus on the crisis caused by COVID-19 from different perspectives. In the first publication, professors of the Univeristiat of Barcelona (UB) José María Durán-Cabré and Alejandro Esteller-Moré discuss the role of tax policy and taxes.
The researchers identify a number of tax measures that should contribute either to minimise the impact on the public deficit or to help with macroeconomic stabilisation. This stabilisation, as they indicate, “should try to ensure the liquidity of the economy to prevent its collapse in the short term, but with consequent negative effects in the long term”.
