The regional financing model: the second debate in the cycle marking the IEB’s twentieth anniversary

SEE THE PROGRAM

The question of regional financing is entering a key phase. The Spanish Ministry of Public Finance is set to present its proposals for reforming the regional financing model in November. To analyse the key points of an issue that has raised so much controversy, the Barcelona Institute of Economics (IEB) is holding a conference on regional financing as part of the cycle of events to mark its twentieth anniversary.

The event will be held at 12 noon on 27 October and can be followed live on the La Vanguardia website. The members of the round table who will share opinions and analysis are Inés Olóndriz de Moragas, General Secretary of Autonomous and Local Financing at the Spanish Ministry of Public Finances; Marta Espasa, Secretary of Finance of the Catalan Ministry of Economy and Finance; Francisco Pérez, emeritus professor of the Universidad de Valencia and Director of the Valencian Institute for Economic Research (IVIE); Álvaro Escuder, partner at the law firm Cuatrecasas and expert in tax law; and Valentí Pich, president of the General Council of Economists of Spain.

The debate will be coordinated and presented by Alejandro Esteller and Albert Solé, professors of economics at the University of Barcelona (UB) and heads of the IEB’s research program on fiscal federalism.

This debate on regional financing and taxation is the second in a cycle of events being held to mark the twentieth anniversary of the IEB. The first focused on the expansion of Barcelona Airport, and the third, scheduled for 1 December, will examine the Spanish health model.
