On February 4th, the VIII International Academic Symposium, this year entitled “Economics and Energy Efficiency Policies” will take place at the Parc Científic in Barcelona. Organized by the Chair of Energy Sustainability of the University of Barcelona and affiliated with the Barcelona Institute of Economics (IEB), the Academic Symposium takes place one day after the business conference spearheaded by Funseam –the Foundation sponsoring the Chair – thus setting up a comprehensive programme dedicated to energy efficiency.
Throughout the conference, leading researchers from top universities will provide their vision on the different aspects that will set the energy sector’s energy efficiency agenda in the coming years. In particular, the Academic Symposium aims to be a forum of discussion with the objective of providing new results and recommendations to achieve the ambitious goal of achieving a competitive economy, modern and climatically neutral. During three sessions, consumer behaviour – of both families and industries – will be analysed with respect to their energy consumption patterns, the main impacts of energy efficiency will be identified, and, finally, the instruments better suited to improve and achieve the path to the 2030 targets will be evaluated.
Among the main experts who will attend the event, the conference will feature Claudia Kemfert (German Institute for Economic Research – DIW Berlin) and Ulrich Wagner (University of Mannheim), both with significant contributions in the field of economics related to energy and environmental sustainability. The opening session of the Symposium will be given by Maria Teresa Costa, Professor of Economics, researcher at the IEB, and Director of the Chair of Energy Sustainability at the University of Barcelona. This VIII Academic Symposium is part of the activities of the project “the challenge of climate change: policies for the energy transition” that has received support from RecerCaixa, a program promoted by the La Caixa Foundation, with the collaboration of the Association of the Catalan Public Universities.
