Barcelona City Council and Barcelona Provincial Council, new sponsors of the FIEB

Another step forward in the consolidation of the IEB

The Barcelona Economics Institute (IEB) is a University of Barcelona (UB) research centre which specializes in the field of applied economics, fiscal federalism and the regional economy. Its main areas of study are municipal and subcentral finances and the competitiveness of cities and regions.

This year the Barcelona City Council and the Barcelona Provincial Council have joined the FIEB, the Board of Trustees of the IEB Foundation, where they will work alongside the five companies that are already members: CatalunyaCaixa, Abertis Infraestructuras, Applus, La Caixa and Natural Gas Fenosa. Created in 2008 to support and promote the main lines of the Institute’s research, the Foundation has played an important role in establishing the IEB as a major national and international research centre.

The incorporation of these two members is a step forward for the consolidation and recognition of the IEB as a leading research centre in the area of applied economics, and is an example of successful cooperation between the public sector, the university and the business world.
