Andreu Mas-Colell, Joaquim Coello, and José María Durán-Cabré have joined the board of trustees of the Barcelona Institute of Economics (IEB). This strengthens the IEB’s ties with leading figures in the economic and business fields.
Andreu Mas-Colell is Professor of Economics at Pompeu Fabra University. He was Professor of Economics at Harvard University from 1981 to 1996, and President of the Barcelona Graduate School of Economics from 2006 to 2010. He served as Minister of Universities for the Government of Catalonia from 2000 to 2003, playing a key role in the development of the Catalan university system.
Joaquim Coello is a naval engineer from the Higher Technical School of Naval Engineers of Madrid. He has served as CEO and Chairman of Applus from 2006 to 2014, CEO of ITP, General Manager of Gamesa, Dean of the Official College of Naval and Ocean Engineers of Spain, Chairman of the Port Authority of Barcelona, and Chairman of the Social Council of the University of Barcelona. Coello was the first Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the IEB, from its founding in 2008 until 2014.
José María Durán Cabré is the current Director of the Barcelona Institute of Economics, a position he has held since 2017. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Barcelona. An expert in public economics, particularly taxation and fiscal federalism, he has published numerous academic articles and participated in studies for the European Commission, the Government of Catalonia, and the Government of Andorra.
