The Barcelona Institute of Economics (IEB) has just published its ANNUAL REPORT which includes the entity’s activity throughout 2025. As reflected in the document, 2025 has been another productive year in the achievement of the IEB’s main objectives: on the one hand, to promote and disseminate research in applied economics and, on the other, to contribute to debate and decision-making in economic policy.
The report includes figures that show the strength of the IEB. A total of 45 articles submitted by IEB researchers to journals included in the Journal Citation Reports were accepted for publication: 38 already published in 2025 and 7 in future issues. In addition, IEB researchers published 10 articles in other academic journals, as well as 19 book chapters with renowned publishers. They also published 19 working papers.
In 2025, the IEB organized multiple workshops and symposia. By way of example: International Academic Symposium on Energy Sustainability, Fiscal Forum 1.2 on Inheritance Tax: Redistribution and Family Business, Workshop on Urban Economics, Workshop on Public Policies, Workshop on Transport Economics and two Workshops on Violence against Women. In addition, other types of events were organised aimed at issues such as affordable housing, municipal taxation, unique models of sub-central financing, the drivers of the Catalan economy, tax systems for sustainable economic leadership and the size and financing of municipalities. Some of these events were organised in collaboration with other institutions as well as our regular patrons and partners.
The report also includes the news as far as members of the IEB are concerned. In 2025, seven new researchers joined the IEB. Four new associate researchers and two new doctoral students were also incorporated. With all this, at the end of 2025 the IEB was made up of 49 researchers, 49 associate researchers and 19 doctoral students.
Another significant achievement recorded during 2025 is the total number of competitive research projects developed by IEB researchers, which was 40.
